Abstract

To that cemeteries were built far from the religious temples Catholics there was a process
marked by ups and downs throughout Brazil, both because of popular resistance, as the lack  of resources for their construction, among other factors. In this paper we analyze how was this movement in Ceará through the specific case of Quixeramobim, seeking to realize the configuration of spaces funeral for victims of the cholera morbus epidemic, which reached such city and Province between the years 1862 and 1863. Used as a theoretical works of Claudia Rodrigues, Edgar Morin and Philippe Àries, and as sources we list a number of documents, among which we mention: Wills, crafts, death records and reports to the President of the Province .
