HERITAGE AND POLITICAL HISTORY IN PIAUÍ: FROM ORIGINS TO REDEMOCRATIZATION

Abstract

This article aims to analyze how the understanding of the historical construction of the state of Piaui becomes central to the analysis of Piaui politics. For this, we resorted to the analysis of the political history of the state since the origins until the process of redemocratization in the 1980s. The main conclusions point out that the historically constructed political forces guaranteed control by certain political elites and parties over the state’s political scenario even in a context of redemocratization.
