AWAKENING THE MONSTER: HISPANISM IN THE COMMEMORATION OF I CENTENARY OF INDEPENDENCE IN COLOMBIA.
Abstract
At the end of the XIX century, Spain suffered a defeat from the United States. On the other
hand, Latin America feels invaded by this country continuosly, since the Caribbean, Panama to Asia. In this way, the Iberican country and the Latin America countries elite, they joined against the North Country by mean of the Iberican Culture: catholic religion, spanish language and other ingredients of the Iberian race preached by Spain. Opposite to the AngloSajon world of the common enemy, it was necessary to place the Hispanic world. We present in this work, the discourse of the Bogota elites in the first Centenary commemoration of the independence, in the opened alliance with the decadent Spain. The Colombian elites were chasing the recognition as civilized of European and American world by means of the Spanish culture, which they did think to do part.
