Abstract

This article has the objective of present resumid discussion about the christians repre-sentations, emphasizing on construction of the ascesis ideal and on the practices to him associated. Among others practices connected to the christian asceticism from the cen-tury IV and V, the manual labor could be distinguished, due to the emphasizing made by a lot of treaties and latters, consecutively various work. In this case, based in a careful analysis, remarking the repetitions of expressions and words in the text, was studied how this element was presented on the biography Life of Saint Macrina, written by Gregory of Nissa, in 383. Is objective of this work shows the importance of this element, manual labor, to the construction of conduct models, which reverberated on orders and laws in medieval monasteries.Trabalhos Manuais.
