THE PRODUCTION OF THE COLLECTIVE MEMORY IN THE HISTORY OF "ORIGINS": THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE CATHOLIC COMMUNITY SHALOM IN THE CITY OF FORTALEZA
Keywords:
collective memory; myth of foundation; identity.Abstract
The article discusses the mechanisms of production of collective memory and its im-portance for the study of social collectivities, especially those of religious bias. To do so, it takes as a corpus of analysis the narratives about the origins and foundation of the Shalom Catholic Community, an institution representative of charismatic Catholicism. Founded in 1982, in the city of Fortaleza (CE), the aforementioned community has its founder, Moysés Azevedo, the leadership par excellence, acting as source and center from which community life is born, whether in historical time or according to if you be-lieve, beyond it. Thus, the article analyzes the various means by which Moyses's lead-ership was inscribed and legitimized in the historical time of the Community, as well as the primordial means of exercising such leadership: the production of a collective memory about origins, fully identified in its biographical history.
