SATÃ HIGH TECH: THE REPRESENTATIONS ON THE DEVIL IN PONTIFICATE OF PAPA FRANCISCO

Abstract

this article we seek to investigate the representation about the Devil in the Pontificate
of Pope Francis. We realized that since 2013, Pope Francis speaks in his homilies
about the real existence of Satan and the need to fight it. Therefore, we analyze the
power relations between the Pope and the leaders of the International Association of
Exorcists (Associazione Internazionale degli Esorcisti). Our initial hypothesis is that in
their discourse, the Devil gains a new medium: the internet. To the Catholic Church the
World Wide Web would be the great vector of corruption of the human soul, a
dangerous window open to the temptations and to the demonic possession.
