AMBIGUITIES AND PARADOXES IN PÚSTUMAS MEMORIES OF BRAS CUBAS

Abstract

Literature - despite its specificity as a work of art and fiction - records elements of social reality that often dialogue with official sources, the newspapers of the time the work was written or even the historiographic discourse. Besides representing - the writer and the work - a historical position of the time in which they acted in the society, they also are inserted in a specific mo-ment of history. Thus, this text has as main objective to analyze novel Memórias póstumas de Brás Cubas, in the interdisciplinary perspective between history and fiction. This means that lit-erature is taken here as a historical problem to be explored and analyzed without losing sight of its specific elements. Considered as historical testimony of an era, literature will be inserted in the society movement, investigated in its social interlocution networks and analyzed the peculiar way in which it constructs or represents its relation with social and historical reality.
