This article aims to discuss the function of the library and museum of the Instituto José Xavier (IJX), this private institution founded in 2004 sought to preserve and develop activities that disseminate the local culture of the city of Granja-CE. In this way, we seek to reflect on the role of these spaces and cultural mobilizations for the subjects who were involved with the institution, as well as the relevance of this type of archive for the production of historical knowledge.
