The military government, in Brazil, enabled a process called conservative modernization, which promoted an economical and technological development, generating industrial expansion, urbanization, changes in State machinery, besides drafting a conservative impulse in order to preserve the social order, traditional values and coordinate an integration of the Brazilian society. Thus, according to this historical background, the present study intends to analyze the Rachel de Queiroz’s chronicles, published in the section Última Página of the O Cruzeiro magazine, between 1964 and 1975. It is known that the writer, literary phenomenon of the 1930s and 1940s, had her work shaded during the military dictatorship because of her adhesion relationships with the government and controversial public statements, but she has also to be considered a multiple individual, whose trajectory has a pathway that changes over time. Therefore, we should comprehend how the chronicler observed, felt and experimented the changes of urban machines, technological and scientific innovations.
