Portal de Periódicos da UECE (PPU) is a project aimed at the development, democratization of access to scientific research and the qualification of periodicals at the State University of Ceará. Using the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform in version 3.3.0.13, developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP), it aims at building and managing electronic journals.
Periodicals hosted at the PPU publish in different research areas, namely: Philosophy; Education; Applied Linguistics; History; Chemistry; Geography; Physics; Political science; Nutrition and Health; International relations; Mathematics and History of Mathematics; Sociology; Public policy; Psychiatry; Veterinary Medicine; and Computer Science. In all, there are 26 scientific journals hosted at the PPU, which disseminate qualified knowledge in society.
The works can be produced by undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals from different areas, depending on the specificity of the journal's regiment. Therefore, the author must check the submission rules of the scientific journal to identify the degree of training and accepted typologies that constitute requirements for publication.
Portal objectives
- Promoting the (inter)national visibility of scientific productions edited at the institution within the scope of scientific journals;
- Provide free access to scientific knowledge for the entire community;
- Promote development among the institution's scientific journals;
- Train editors in handling the Open Journal Systems (OJS) platform;
- Increase journal adherence to open science principles.
Historic
In 2001, through the Departarmento de Informática (DI) linked to the State University of Ceará (UECE), the Sistema Eletrônico de Editoração de Revistas (SEER) was installed based on the Open Journal Systems (OJS) software developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP) .
In 2017, there were around 20 scientific journals hosted on the OJS platform in version 2.4.8.1. Until then, journals belonging to the Portal were linked to research groups, extension projects, centers, courses, laboratories, postgraduate programs and professors in an individual and personalized way.
In March 2018, with the verification of the lack of interoperability of the old platform through an analysis of metadata and protocols Open Archives Initiative - Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH), which prevented the sharing of information in databases, search engines and indexers and their respective inclusion in these spaces, the platform was reinstalled in version OJS 3.1.0.1, causing the editorial teams to migrate previously published academic works to the new platform. Thus, during the migration process, the Portal de Periódicos was hosted at two addresses, from 2017 to 2022, an address in version 2.3.3.3 and another address in version 3.2.1.3.
In 2022, based on a commission set up by the vice-rector, a representative of the Pró-reitoria de Pesquisa e Pós-Graduação (PROPGPq), a representative of the Editora da UECE and a publishing editor for Educação & Formação, an organizational chart was designed to regulate the PPU.
On March 14, 2022, the professor and vice-rector of the State University of Ceará published Resolution No. 1751 by the Conselho Universitário (CONSU), which aimed to regulate and formalize the PPU. This publication made it possible to manage, finance and qualify the institution's scientific journals.
As a result, a meeting with the magazine editors was elected (i) a Coordination formed by: a coordinator, a portal manager and a permanent trainer; and (ii) an Advisory Board made up of: a Portal coordinator, a representative of the Pró-Reitoria de Pós Graduação e Pesquisa (PROPGPq), a representative of the Editora da UECE (EdUECE), a representative of the Sistema de Bibliotecas da UECE, and three representatives of the editors, elected by their peers.
Since then, the Portal de Periódicos da UECE has held planning meetings and training to develop best practices in the production and dissemination of open science with ethics and responsibility.
