Abstract

Some dogs have a congenital anomaly called ureteral ectopia, in which the ureters do not implant correctly with the bladder, resulting in their exit in different locations, such as the urethra, uterus, vagina or vas deferens and prostate in males. This causes urinary incontinence from birth, causing cystitis, pyelonephritis, hematuria and when irritating the skin, it can present complications such as dermatitis. In the case described, a six-month-old Samoyed dog was treated at a veterinary hospital presenting apathy, hyporexia, frequent urination, and excessive licking of the genital region apathy for five days. Immediately after the anamnesis, several tests were carried out, such as blood count, biochemistry, abdominal ultrasound, and urine analysis, due to the suspicion of lower urinary tract disease. However, the initial treatment was unsuccessful and the dog's symptoms worsened, requiring blood tests, abdominal ultrasounds and hospitalization. After the tests, ureteral ectopia was diagnosed, and ureter reimplantation surgery was performed. The procedure to correct the ureteral ectopia was successful, and the animal had an uneventful post-surgical period and was medically discharged after 25 days of follow-up.
