Abstract
Avian pox, also known as avian variola, is a viral disease caused by the Avipoxvirus agent and transmitted by mosquitoes of the Aedes and Culex genera. This illness can affect virtually all birds species, presenting itself in two main clinical forms: cutaneous and diphtheritic. The present study aims to report the anatomopathological findings in a pigeon affected by the cutaneous form of avian pox. After the initial assessment of the animal, euthanasia was performed, followed by necropsy and collection of materials for histopathological examination. The morphological diagnosis was "severe hyperplastic lymphohistiocytic dermatitis with necrotizing ballooning degeneration associated with inclusion bodies compatible with avian poxvirus." The histopathological and necropsy findings were essential for diagnosing the disease in this case, as the animal was free-ranging with no prior clinical history
