Abstract

Cats are increasingly considered the first choice among domestic animals and stand out as patients in the veterinary medical clinic, due to disorders in the urogenital tract. Thus, the study of the reproductive anatomy and physiology of these individuals is the basis for understanding and intervening on reproductive and urinary pathologies, as well as for the investigation of reproduction techniques. The reproductive system of domestic cats, although also formed by the testes, epididymis, vas deferens, accessory sexual glands, urethra, penis, scrotum and prepuce, has several peculiarities that deserve to be highlighted. Its functions are controlled by the nervous and endocrine systems, in a complex interaction. Based on the above, this work aimed to develop a literature review on the reproductive system of the domestic cat, highlighting its particularities, to guide veterinarians regarding the main anatomical and physiological characteristics of the species, which permeates the basis for its adequate clinical, surgical or even biotechnological intervention.
