Abstract

This work aims to analyze the political plots that went through the institucionalization
processo f insanity in the province if Parahyba, from the mid 1850s and culminating in the
construction of theHospital Colônia Juliano Moreira, in 1920s, marking the beginning of
medicalization of the insane people in the state.
