Abstract

In our research, in addition to interviews with health professional, most f the collected data
are from patients, men and women of different age groups, that allow us to understand the meaning of the experiences, revealing not only common traits, but the particular actions and reactions of men and women. The sociability of those affected by the “Chagas disease” is enriched by the sensitivity of the interviewees, revealed more specifically by the female gender. In both sexes the force of religiosity is verified, be it catholic or protestant.
Religiousness is an important support to confront the sequelae of the disease. It makes
possible a more optimistic reaction to the illness with the comfort and protection found in
religious practices.
