Until 1965 women were not accepted as IHGB’s associates. This means that, for more than a century, the historiographical practice developed from this space was officially authorized only for men. Despite this, there was, since the nineteenth century, initiatives of women intellectuals to enter that institution, which was considered the temple of History. This article seeks to analyze gender relations in the IHGB in the period before 1965. The central sources of this research are the transcripts of the conference cycle called "Evenings at the Institute" (1928). The central feature of this event lies in the fact that the speakers were women. By choosing to problematize the production of historical knowledge in Brazil using the gender category, this text seeks to contribute to the reflection on the history of historiography in the country.
