Abstract

This paper aims to discuss some elements to understand the territoriality and the physical aspects of a Candomblé community and how these characteristics are closely linked to the relationships between the terreiro members and their deities, also aiming to present the “Mothers of Pontal” - both those of the African pantheon and the ialorixás -as leading figures who are part of the memory and identity of the Candomblé community.
