Abstract

The objective of this study was to verify the presence of bovine herpesvirus 1 (BoHV l) DNA in Cumulus Oophorus Complexes (COCs) and blood from naturally infected cows. COCs were obtained from 1S donors using ultrasound-guided follicular aspiration (OPU). DNA extraction was performed on a pool of COCs from all aspirations from the same donor and on whole blood. After this procedure, the Nested-PC R reactions were carried out. BoHVl DNA was identified in the pool of COCs from three seropositive donors, and was not detected in any of the seronegative samples. However, no viral DNA was found in blood samples, even those from seropositive animals. All blood samples and COCs were submitted to Nested-PCR for the detection of BoHV S, with no positive results being found. The results obtained allow us to conclude that viral DNA may be present in ovarian structures of cows naturally infected by BoHV 1.
