Abstract
This study evaluated follicular diameter on the day of insemination and pregnancy rate in buffaloes subjected to three ovulation inducers: GnRH, estradiol benzoate (EB), and estradiol cypionate (EC), the latter administered on the ninth day of the hormonal protocol. The objective was to identify the most efficient alternative for buffalo reproduction. A total of 69 Murrah buffaloes were used, evaluated for body condition score and divided into three groups, each subjected to a distinct ovulation synchronization protocol. Artificial insemination was performed on day 12 (GnRH and EB) and day 11 (EC), with follicular diameter measured by ultrasonography.Pregnancy diagnosis was conducted 30 days after FTAI. Statistical analyses were performed using R software. A paired Student’s t-test (p < 0.05) was used to compare follicular diameters, and a chi-square test (p > 0.05) was used for pregnancy rates. Mean follicular diameters and pregnancy rates were: 7.77 ± 2.40 mm and 29.41% (EC); 9.77 ± 2.35 mm and 30.76% (EB); 9.70 ± 2.48 mm and 34.61% (GnRH). No significant difference was found in pregnancy rates among groups, but EB and GnRH showed larger follicular diameters compared to EC. It is concluded that all three inducers are viable options in FTAI synchronization protocols in buffaloes.
