Influence of heat stress on the reproduction and production of male pigs

For the implementation of AI programs to be successful, different aspects must be considered, such as nutritional status, sanitary management and semen quality, the latter also reflecting on the genetic and productive quality of the herd, hence the importance of evaluating the semen. used. The association between high temperatures, humidity and solar radiation can lead to physiological, hematological, hormonal, reproductive (quantity and quality) and productive changes. The environment of the intensive breeding system has a direct influence on the condition of animal comfort and well-being, promoting difficulty in maintaining the thermal balance inside the facilities, the chemical quality of the air and the expression of their natural behaviors, affecting productive and reproductive performance. of pigs. Therefore, information that can clarify the impact of thermal stress on the efficiency of these aspects in pigs, analyzing the environment in which they are located, and how they behave in the face of adversities imposed by the climate, will make a great contribution to pig farming and strengthening its production chain. In view of this, understanding the impact of thermal stress on various aspects of pig farming encourages the development of new work that can deepen and quantify the damage caused by this event on the quality of pig semen.
