Abstract

This paper describes a case of cholangiocarcinoma in a 6-month-old rainbow lorikeet (Trichoglossus haematodus) treated at a specialized clinic in Fortaleza, Ceará. The bird presented with an increased volume in the coelomic cavity and labored breathing. Radiographic and ultrasonographic examinations revealed hepatomegaly and coelomic fluid, suggesting a neoplasm. Analysis of the abdominal fluid and blood count indicated an inflammatory process. After the clinical condition worsened, exploratory laparotomy was performed to resect the tumor, confirming the diagnosis of cholangiocarcinoma through histopathological analysis. This case highlights the aggressiveness of cholangiocarcinoma in young psittacines and the need for a multidisciplinary diagnostic approach. The scarcity of literature on neoplasms in exotic birds underscores the urgency for further studies to improve diagnoses and treatments.
