GOAT BREEDS AND CROSSES FOR NORTHEAST BRAZIL

Associating the rusticity of naturalized species with the good productivity of exotic species, carrying out crosses between counterparts, or between exotic breeds that are more tolerant to heat, is an action to be put into practice in goat and sheep farming, both for milk and meat production. . The introduction of exotics with the aim of increasing production without paying attention to the adaptation factor of these breeds to the edaphoclimatic conditions of the northeast region, is a "slight mistake" that has been made, and is still being made in this region. It is necessary to change the mentality, and add to this change improvements in nutrition and health conditions to carry out rational livestock farming in a semi-arid region.
