Abstract
Hemangiosarcomas are malignant tumors that originate from vascular endothelial cells. With non-specific and variable clinical signs depending on the characteristics of the tumor, they require a diagnosis based on the sum of a good anamnesis, imaging tests, cytology, and histology. Although it is the treatment of choice, surgical resection does not have a direct relationship with increased survival in patients and can be associated with chemotherapy. In general, the prognosis is considered unfavorable. This work aims to describe a case of hepatic hemangiosarcoma in a dog, for which surgical resection was indicated. The patient presented symptoms such as weight loss, abdominal enlargement, and decreased appetite. Ultrasonography confirmed the presence of liver neoplasia, suggesting the need for surgery. Even though the patient died during the procedure, we concluded that, despite the fatality, surgical resection continues to be the most recommended approach and it is essential to process the collected material for an enlightening diagnosis.
