Metastatic ovarian carcinoma in twister rat
Keywords:
Neoplasm, Metastasis, HistopathologicalAbstract
The most common pathologies observed in exotic animals are mostly caused by management errors, lack of guidance or research by the owner, lack of sanitation measures, parasitic diseases, and inbreeding, also common in these animals. In addition to tumors, they can also be affected by viral, bacterial, and fungal infections. Thus, this study aimed to report a metastatic squamous cell carcinoma in Twister. A two-year-old Twister (Rattus novergicus) was seen at a private veterinary clinic and during the clinical examination, during palpation of the abdominal region, an increase in volume and firm, irregular, and mobile structures were observed. Due to the animal's physiological difficulties, euthanasia and necropsy were chosen, where metastatic carcinoma was observed due to macroscopic and histological changes found in the organs. New studies are needed in the area to collaborate with the increase of information about neoplasms in Twister rats, and their impact and behavior on the animal's survival since the literature on these animals is scarce, contributing to a better understanding of their physiology, which will guarantee the welfare and longevity of these animals.
