Abstract

The Barn Owl (Tyto furcata) is the only species of owl representative of the family Tytonidae in the Americas, belonging to a genus that is considered cosmopolitan. Glucose is characterized as one of the main energy sources used by a living organism to maintain the functioning of essential organic activities. Thus, its concentration results from the balance between the rates of entry and removal from circulation. Therefore, during a clinical examination or veterinary emergency, glycemic measurement is of great importance in an accurate clinical evaluation. In this context, this study evaluated the glycemic profile at different fasting times of free-living owls of the species T. furcata in the semi-arid region of Rio Grande do Norte by statistical analysis with a significance level set at 5%, to obtain a standard model. Thus, it was possible to produce reference data that can contribute to the clinic and ex situ or in situ conservation of this species.
