Abstract

With the growing number of unconventional pets in Brazil and worldwide, associated with the need for conservation in and ex situ, it is necessary to know the various conditions that affect these animals, as well as their zoonotic potential. The present study aimed to report the occurrence of a case of Candida albicans infection in a mangrove parrot (Amazona amazonica) treated at the Veterinary Hospital of the Federal Rural University of the Semi-Arid Region. The animal presented solidified plaque in the right oral commissure of foul odor, in addition to whitish plaques in the ventral region of the tongue. Complementary tests were performed, including bacterial and fungal culture. It was concluded that the microbiological diagnosis was an important aid in the detection of the infectious agent, which contributed to the direction of treatment.
