Abstract
It is believed that Haff's disease, popularly known as black urine disease, is caused by a thermostable toxin that affects people who have ingested contaminated fis and may progress to rhabdomyolysis. Although the etiology of the disease has not yet been defined, several studies are being carried out in order to understand the main causes, symptoms, diagnosis and treatment. Thus, the present study aimed to carry out a literature review on the relevant aspects related to Haff's disease. It is important that public agencies carry out training actions for professionals working in the fish production chain so that they can guarantee quality food, as well as inform consumers about possible cases of intoxication and how they should proceed if they are affected by the disease.
