Neutralization in Agamben

Abstract

This article investigates the concept of neutralization in the work of the Italian philosopher Giorgio Agamben. Its about, with such a concept, to deepen the understanding of the Agambenian concepts of inoperosity and of destitute power. To this end, it begins with a contrast between neutralization and destruction. In sequence, such distinction is pursued in Agamben's works, and this path analyzes, among other elements, the existing links between the concepts of katargein, Aufheben, désouvrement and inoperosity. It is noteworthy that destruction aims at destroying a specific apparatus of governing life, while neutralization aims at disabling the apparatus' own strategy.
