The role of experience in Susan Haack’s foundherentist theory

This article aims to evaluate the merits of Haack’s foundherentist theory into the debate concerning justification of empirical beliefs. For this purpose, we present the two main theoretical traditions involved in this discussion, foundationalism and coherentism. Then, we analyze the main problems concerning each of these theoretical positions. Finally, we show Haack’s theory as an alternative for the limitations of these traditional positions. Our conclusion is that foundherentism is an effective approach, although we recognize limitations to be addressed.
