O presente artigo, dando enfoque na perspectiva teórica de Hobbes, analisa sua concepção da guerra e busca identificar uma teoria da guerra civil, com a finalidade de explicar as ocorrências históricas da Guerra Civil Inglesa que são apresentadas pelo filósofo no Behemoth. Argumenta-se, em primeiro lugar, que a guerra civil distingue-se por ser um conflito entre facções. Em seguida, procura-se interpretar, a partir da filosofia política hobbesiana, uma teoria da guerra que considere o problema do facciosismo. Por último, a interpretação conceitual da guerra civil esboçada é aplicada numa leitura do Behemoth.
